Technological innovation and green development are becoming key drivers of China’s supply-chain transformation, prompting foreign companies to expand local investment and partnerships in advanced manufacturing, industrial technology and sustainable agriculture, senior executives said on Tuesday.

Speaking at the fourth China International Supply Chain Expo, or CISCE, running from Monday to Friday in Beijing, they noted that China’s supply chain is shifting from basic connectivity toward greater integration, coordination and innovation.

Yin Zheng, executive vice-president of China and East Asia operations at Schneider Electric, said that amid the combined uncertainties of climate change, geopolitical tensions and trade frictions, supply chain resilience — the ability to withstand disruptions, recover quickly and continuously adapt — has become a critical capability for companies seeking to navigate economic cycles.

“China, the world’s only country with a complete industrial system, will continue to play a vital role as both a stabilizer and innovation driver for global supply chains,” said Yin, adding that the country has become one of the group’s most important global supply chain hubs and one of its four global research and development centers, with local procurement exceeding 90 percent.

The French industrial conglomerate is nearing completion of its new industrial park in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, while its industrial park in Xiamen, Fujian province, is set to begin operations by the end of this year and will become Schneider Electric’s largest global medium-voltage production base, strengthening support for China’s industrial transformation and supplying customers around the world.

The broader appeal of China’s market and innovation ecosystem is also evident in official data. The number of foreign-invested enterprises in China has risen for three consecutive years to surpass 530,000, with total accumulated foreign direct investment exceeding $3.6 trillion, data from the Ministry of Commerce show.

In 2025, more than 8,000 overseas businesses increased their investment in China, a jump of over 10 percent year-on-year.

Zhai Jingli, deputy CEO of APP China-Sinar Mas Group, Indonesia’s integrated plantation-pulp-paper group, said industrial development is moving beyond strengthening individual value chains toward fostering broader industrial ecosystems, where companies from different sectors can jointly address sustainability challenges and unlock new growth opportunities.

To support this transition, the Indonesian company, also a third-time CISCE participant, unveiled a new industry initiative to promote value co-creation through decarbonization, digital innovation and ecosystem partnerships at this year’s expo.

“Over the next three to five years, China’s paper sector is expected to move toward greener, smarter and more interconnected development, with ecosystem-building becoming a key source of competitiveness,” Zhai said.

Agriculture is another sector where technological innovation is strengthening supply chains and creating new opportunities for sustainable growth. Syngenta Group, the Basel, Switzerland–headquartered agricultural technology company, showcased a comprehensive portfolio of solutions spanning seed innovation, sustainable crop protection, digital agriculture and integrated technical services at this year’s expo.

Su Fu, president of Syngenta Group China, said the country is rapidly emerging as a key testing ground for artificial intelligence-enabled agricultural innovation, with advances in breeding technologies and digital services expected to improve productivity, sustainability and supply chain efficiency.

During the expo, the company announced new partnerships and initiatives with industry and food-sector players, including value-chain cooperation with McDonald’s China and McCain Foods China, as well as the release of a regenerative agriculture practice evaluation guide with partners, as part of broader efforts to advance regenerative agriculture and enhance resilience across China’s agricultural supply chains.
