Amid the nation’s drive to boost strength in transportation and develop a modernized infrastructure system, a local high-speed railway in East China’s Anhui province has started laying tracks to prepare for its further integration into the prosperous Yangtze River Delta region.

Workers from State-builder China Railway No 4 Engineering Group (CREC4) started laying tracks for the whole line of Fuyang-Huaibei High-speed Railway in northern Anhui on Oct 28, marking the commencement of the intensive construction phase for this vital rail transport artery.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the full track-laying was held at Pier 106 of the G3 Beijing-Taipei Expressway Grand Bridge — also built by CREC4.

CREC4 staffer Sun Liben noted that the 142.50-kilometer Fuyang-Huaibei HSR — which can allow trains to run at 350 kilometers per hour, linking four prefecture-level cities of Fuyang, Bozhou, Huaibei and Suzhou in northern Anhui — was jointly funded by Anhui Provincial Investment Group and the four municipal governments.

He said the track-laying started in the direction of Fuyang.

The recently concluded Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China issued a communique on Oct 23, with an urge to boost China’s strength in transportation and develop a modernized infrastructure system.
