Electric heavy trucks made by Sany Truck await shipment at Guangzhou Port in Guangdong on June 26. CHINA DAILY
More than 880 export-bound electric heavy trucks made by Sany Truck in Changsha, Hunan province, left Guangzhou Port in Guangdong recently.
It is the largest single export of Chinese new energy heavy trucks on record, surpassing the entire previous year’s export total for the industry. According to the General Administration of Customs, China exported a total of 877 new energy trucks in 2025.
Due to a commercial non-disclosure agreement, the destination and customer of the order remain confidential, said Sany Truck, the heavy-duty commercial vehicle division of global manufacturing giant Sany Group.
Liu Fengfeng, general manager of Sany Truck’s International Sales and Marketing Co, said that the order was placed by an overseas industrial and logistics operator aiming to decarbonize its heavy-duty fleet, signaling a shift in the commercial vehicle market from small-scale demonstration projects to full fleet adoption.
“The core driver for customers to make large-scale fleet replacements is not just the pressure of environmental compliance, but also the clear and highly competitive economic advantages offered by Chinese products,” Liu said.
Sany Truck estimated that the fleet will reduce the customer’s annual operating costs by approximately 150 million yuan ($22 million) compared to diesel equivalents, while cutting carbon dioxide emissions by roughly 80,000 metric tons per year.
While global attention has often focused on China’s exports of new energy passenger cars, the strength of China’s new energy commercial vehicle industry has largely flown under the radar, Liu noted.
“This order marks the spillover effect of China’s new energy vehicle supply chain, moving beyond passenger vehicles to drive the green transformation of heavy industrial equipment worldwide,” he said.
Founded in 2018, Sany Truck has led domestic sales of new energy heavy trucks for four consecutive years. Last year, it became the global leader in new energy heavy trucks in terms of the number of vehicles in operation.
The market leadership has been built on sustained technological progress, according to Liang Linhe, chairman of the company. Over the years, Sany Truck’s electric motors have progressed from 200 kilowatts to 450 kW in mass production, and its batteries from 200 kilowatt-hours to 800 kWh with reduced weight, Liang said.
“We have made breakthroughs in technology while lowering manufacturing costs, aiming to offer a Chinese solution to the toughest operating conditions in the world, such as extreme heat, heavy humidity and high-load operations,” he said.
The company also made customized modifications for the customer’s specific operating scenarios, said Huang Tie, deputy general manager of Sany Commercial Vehicles Intelligent Manufacturing Co.
Sany’s electric heavy trucks are now exported to more than 50 countries and regions.
