In 2024, the value of sold postcards in the EU was €60.0 million, down 15% compared with 2023 (€69 million). 

Since 2014, there has been a decline in the value of sold postcards. However, during the global pandemic, this number increased and reached the highest level of the past decade. From 2020 to 2021, the value of sold postcards grew by almost 50% and in 2022 peaked at €81.3 million.

Increase in the number of people working in postal and courier services

In the EU, 1.45 million people, aged 15 or over, were employed in postal and courier services in 2024, compared with 1.40 million in 2014. ‘Postal and courier activities’ include services such as the pickup, transport and delivery of letters and parcels.

Among those employed, 0.90 million were men, representing 62.9% of the total workers of this sector. At EU level, on average 70 people per 10 000 employed people were working in the postal and courier services sector. This is a slight decrease compared to 2014 (75 people per 10 000 employed).
