Kempi Deli, the long-standing European delicatessen at the Kempinski Hotel Beijing Yansha Center, reopened on Friday in a new space along the Liangma River following a full relocation and rebranding.

Marking its 33rd year, the deli — now known as Kempi Deli 2.0 — introduces a redesigned interior, expanded all-day dining and an enlarged line of house-made retail products.

The new venue draws on Kempinski Hotels’ “Berthold” deli concept, retaining the deli’s signature red-and-white awnings while updating the interior with warm wood finishes, a barista counter, larger pastry displays and a self-service retail area. An outdoor terrace extends toward the Liangma River.

Kempi Deli 2.0 now offers breakfast items such as croissants, rye bread and German-style granola; sandwiches, salads and paninis at midday; and European cakes in the afternoon, including its long-standing Black Forest recipe. Evenings feature charcuterie, cheeses, antipasti and European wines. New retail products — from sausages and pates to jams, granola, chocolate bars and pasta sauces — are also prepared in-house.

“Kempi Deli has been a part of Beijing’s story since 1992,” said Christian Wiendick, managing director of Kempinski Hotel Beijing Yansha Center.

“For 33 years, guests have returned for our cakes — over 100,000 slices a year — and our handmade pretzels, with more than 30,000 enjoyed annually.

“Kempi Deli 2.0 isn’t just another coffee shop or grab-and-go deli. It’s a ‘polished casual’ spot right by the Liangma River … We are not chasing trends — we are thoughtfully balancing heritage with fresh ideas.”
