China issued 236 million green electricity certificates (GECs) in July, covering 235,800 renewable energy projects, the National Energy Administration (NEA) has said.

Of the July GECs, 166 million were tradable, accounting for 70.63 percent of the total.

From January to July 2025, the NEA has issued a cumulative total of 1.607 billion GECs, with 1.125 billion being tradable, it said.

Since April, the construction of China’s GEC market has accelerated, driving rapid growth in demand and a steady recovery in GEC prices, reflecting a more appropriate valuation of the environmental benefits of renewable energy.
